“I play folk music because this is the musical language that could occupy my senses and attention since I was little. I decided to become a viola player in 1988, at a party at a friend’s place in the countryside. This was the first time I could hear folk music in live performance, not from a record or stage. I have mostly stuck to the viola until 1995, playing the violin only occasionally.
It would be hard to list the names of all the people who influenced and supported me, and – purposefully or not – contributed to my life and career, I feel grateful to them. I started playing with Tükrös Ensemble in 1992, to later become a member. My connection to dance troup “Szőttes”, later called “Ifjú Szívek” has been a defining element of my career since 1993. I occasionally play for other bands, and continue to enjoy cooperating with musicians beside Tükrös.
I was never interested in transforming or rearranging the authentic tradition, I have always felt it to be the most powerful and inspiring in its original form. Within my own bounderies I have been trying to preserve a style closest to its source. This kind of approach requires a deep respect and attention towards the keepers of our tradition; a tradition comprising all from architecture to dances.”
